QCIF – Queensland Cyber Infrastructure Foundation
CQUniversity is proud to be a member of the Queensland Cyber Infrastructure Foundation. QCIF is a leading provider of high-performance computing, data storage, and eResearch support services, majority of which are free to the researcher as the cost is covered under CQUniversity’s membership. QCIF predominately supports Queensland but is ever extending it’s support throughout Australia. Established in 2000 under the former name of Queensland Parallel Supercomputing Foundation, the then QPSF was established to empower researchers across various disciplines and play a pivotal role in advancing scientific discovery and innovation.
QCIF’s state-of-the-art infrastructure offers researchers access to cutting-edge computing resources, enabling complex simulations, data storage, data analyses and modeling at unprecedented scales. This powerful computing capability significantly accelerates research processes, allowing scientists to tackle intricate problems and explore new frontiers in their respective fields. The predominant architectural services include but are not limited to:

One of the key benefits of QCIF is its commitment to fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing among researchers. The foundation facilitates interdisciplinary research by providing a common platform where experts from diverse domains can converge, exchange ideas, and leverage each other’s expertise. This collaborative environment not only enhances the quality and impact of research but also promotes a holistic approach to addressing complex challenges.
In addition to its robust technological infrastructure, QCIF offers comprehensive training and supported workshops based on the Carpentries Software Carpentry Workshop material. By adopting this material, QCIF empowers researchers with the skills and knowledge needed to harness the full potential of advanced computing resources. This emphasis on education ensures that researchers, regardless of their background, can maximize the benefits of QCIF’s services and contribute to the broader scientific community. To focus on support, QCIF helps Queensland higher education institutions to employ their own eResearch Analysts, who are able to work with the researchers at the coalface and help bridge the gap between the scientific community and advanced technologies. Under the direction of QCIF, these ERAs also host a weekly Hacky Hour for their local institution. The Hacky Hour is a free and informal drop in session for researchers to gain advice or live support.
Overall, QCIF plays a crucial role in driving innovation and discovery by providing researchers with the tools, resources, training and collaborative opportunities necessary to push the boundaries of knowledge across various disciplines. Through its dedication to advancing eResearch capabilities, QCIF continues to be a catalyst for transformative breakthroughs in science and technology and CQUniversity remains a proud member.
